Consortium Kudos
In April, Dr. Denise Galloway appeared on local news station KING-TV to discuss the recent findings regarding the effectiveness of the HPV vaccine when delivered in fewer doses.
Dr. Galloway discussed the effectiveness of the vaccine in preventing cervical cancer - especially when distributed widely to adolescents. She also touched on the biggest questions currently occupying scientists like her who study HPV and cervical cancer: namely, whether the protection conferred by the vaccine persists in the long-term, and how many doses it takes to achieve lasting immunity.

NEW Updated Implementation Date for the Updated NIH Public Access Policy
NIH has moved up the implementation date of the new NIH Public Access Policy from December 31, 2025, to July 1, 2025. The most significant change is the removal of the currently allowed 12-month embargo prior to public availability of a manuscript. NIH-funded papers accepted July 1 and later will be required to be made publicly available immediately upon publication. To prepare, please review NIH Notice NOT-OD-25-047 for specific details on the updated policy, as well as related information on Publication Costs and Government Use License and Rights.

Pathways to Health Symposium Held on May 13th, 2025
The OCOE held its annual Pathways Symposium on the Fred Hutch campus on Tuesday, May 13th. The featured two keynote speakers: Dr. Yamilé Molina from the University of Illinois Cancer Center and Dr. Karriem Watson from University of Illinois Health Mile Square Health Center, both of whom shared lessons learned from their community-academic partnerships in Illinois. Partners shared the impact of their community grant projects through posters, and guest speakers joined us from across Washington State to talk about facilitators and barriers to accessing cancer care in different regions of the state.
This year’s theme - Mountains, Valleys and Islands: Bridging Access to Care in Washington State - sparked meaningful dialogue and connection throughout the day. It was so powerful to see everyone come together around a shared commitment to address health disparities. To read more about the event, click here.
At the Symposium, we also had the honor of recognizing three outstanding Health Equity Champions whose work towards social justice and health equity through authentic community engagement inspire us. Please join us in congratulating them!
